From aerial photography and satellite imagery to LiDAR and Phodar, users get the information they need over many disciplines. We will be discussing ongoing projects, technologies and applications used at the BLM as we probe the past to best plan for the future. Pacific Northwest Research Station Station Director’s Office 1220 SW 3rd Avenue, Suite 1400; Portland, OR 97204 Visual Information Specialist GS-1084-09 The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Research Station is seeking an exceptional employee for a permanent position as a GS-1084-9 Visual Information Specialist. This position is located at the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station, located in Portland, Oregon. Designs Publications, Exhibits, and Presentations The Visual Information Specialist (VIS) uses knowledge of a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products to perform layout of technical and non-technical publications and other communication products such as station series publications, PowerPoint presentations, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters, posters, briefing sheets and manuals. Plans the technical details and produces, aesthetically composed visual products for dissemination by print and/or electronic means. This work involves the designs and the placement of text, art and figures using Desktop Publishing (InDesign) and Graphics (PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc.) software to produce page layouts. Computer graphics software and peripheral devices are used to scan copy and graphics, manipulate images, collect and transfer files to colleagues and contractors, "print out" hard copies and convert files for use on the agency web page, etc. Other software is used for reporting job information, and to produce forms required for the printing of government publications. The employee converts electronic word processing files of authors manuscript to produce print ready electronic layouts of publications, e.g.: books, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, and other printed and electronic communications products. Incumbent follows USDA, Forest Service, and PNW graphic standards and requirements when appropriate; and. ensures that the final products are suitable for their intended audiences. This position is a GIS business analyst in the Oregon Geospatial Enterprise Office, responsible for statewide information resource planning, both strategic, long-range plans and the review of state agency operational plans. This position helps the agency meet its responsibility for review and planning of statewide information technology projects, with a particular emphasis on Geographic Information System program initiatives/projects. The position is responsible to lead the Framework Implementation Team (FIT). The FIT includes 15 data theme leads and over 450 participants from every level of government and the private sector. Each of these 15 data development and stewardship programs are highly complex with impacts across multiple state agencies, local and regional governments, federal and tribal agencies and private industry. The Forest Spatial Analyst develops, and manages, conservation databases and provides technical support in GIS and other relational database technologies to the Conservancy's Oregon Forest Team and collaborative stakeholders as supervised by the Oregon Forest Conservation Director. The primary role is development of decision support tools and analysis to inform forest conservation planning, implementation, and monitoring, with a focus on improving the quality, accelerating the pace, and increasing scale of dry forest restoration. Forest restoration activities may include mechanical thinning, prescribed burning, and managed wildfire. The position interacts extensively with external partners, including forest collaborative groups and state/ federal agencies, working to cultivate strong partnerships and jointly funded projects. The position will be located in Bend, Oregon but will entail travel to support other geographies; may consider locating position in Medford, Oregon, pending mutual agreement.
