The Ideal Candidate As a member of the Planning Department, the GIS Specialist will support a variety of Authority projects and programs by providing GIS system maintenance and program administration, data development and curation for internal and external partners, integration across the agency, and mapping services to create clear and compelling maps. As a cross-departmental and adaptable team player, you will excel in this position using your general knowledge of open space planning and environmental issues, and advanced skills with ArcGIS applications, data management, spatial analysis, and cartography in support of the Authority’s broad mission. Your attention to detail will be critical when developing and managing spatial databases, applications, protocols, and models at the Authority. You are driven by knowledge and understanding and will proactively seek to ensure that the Authority is effectively leveraging GIS to achieve its mission. The Authority will support your participation in local and regional groups that further GIS data collection and development through innovative approaches and collaboration. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: - Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Natural Resource Management, Urban Planning, or related field; and - Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the management and administration of a Geographic Information System. - Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS software products (especially ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online). - Demonstrated experience with spatial analysis, database management and cartography. - Applied knowledge of python, SQL, Arcade, or Java programming languages is desirable. - GIS Certificate is desirable. - Additional experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite. - This position is required to take and pass a pre-employment background check. Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this full-time, non-exempt position is $45.79 to $55.65 hourly, depending on experience and qualifications. To complement this salary, we offer a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents – we cover 100% of the cost for these premiums. We participate in CalPERS retirement programs as well as offering a separate 457 Plan for tax deferred retirement savings. Job Description This position is responsible for LiDAR Data Processing and QA/QC. We have a variety of clients that seek our expertise on ensuring quality LiDAR data is delivered in a timely manner and we utilize vendors and staff from around the world to accomplish this. We need interns that have flexible schedules and can work with little to no supervision to accomplish the tasks assigned. Data will need to be processed, QA/QCed, corrected and produced into quality deliverables for our clients. Prior experience in LiDAR data processing is preferred but not required. Training will be provided on site. Successful candidates will be able to think spatially in a 3D environment and learn new concepts and software quickly. Assignment • Serve as a resource for LiDAR data QA/QC and processing on topographic and utility surveys • Classify LiDAR data using TerraScan to meet customer requirements • Create and edit PLS-CADD models for use by utility engineers • Communicate and coordinate with internal staff and outside vendors on LiDAR data production. • Provide internal daily status reports of activities. • Other special duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills • Current college student or recent graduate from a Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Drafting / Engineering or similar program. • Skilled use of Microstation, Terrascan, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth, and other mapping, engineering, and drafting software (preferred) • Demonstrated knowledge of surveying and mapping practices • Demonstrated proficiency in GIS software Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Software • Demonstrated proficiency in organizing daily and weekly plans • Must have the desire to learn new technologies, software, hardware, methodologies and assist the LIDAR team to operate at maximum efficiency • Individual must demonstrate energy, drive and passion for the LIDAR division to succeed • Pay strict attention to details and always be focused on maximizing production while maintaining quality control • The successful candidate will work well with others, be team oriented, helpful and a good problem solver • Ability to read, write and correspond clearly and concisely • Ability to read, understand and apply technical information from procedure manuals, written and verbal instruction, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures • Ability to understand 3D surface modeling and 3D visualization concepts • Ability to identify and clearly communicate problems, issues with data or instructions • Adhere to deadlines and high volume of work Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time position working fewer than thirty (30) hours per week for a limited duration. The theme, ‘GIS for Activism’, is an expansive topic encompassing a variety of undertakings, both local and far-reaching, that help to push us towards a more just and equitable society. This conference will be a free, single day event with registration open to the public and will have food and refreshments available.
