About the Project The Keex’ Kwaan Community Forest Partnership (KKCFP) is a science-based, landscape scale, community forest approach to long term sustainable watershed planning and project implementation. The overall goal is to use new techniques including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and technology to achieve a measurable and resilient blend of timber, fish, and wildlife as well as other natural products such as berries, botanicals, firewood and other non-timber forest products to build local economic diversification and improved watershed health. The KKCFP blends highly inclusive collaboration, state of the art land management tools and an innovative, watershed-scale planning approach for balancing economic, social and ecological outcomes, including improved watershed conditions for Sitka black-tailed deer and anadromous fish populations. Starting in 2019, watershed plans are being developed for the entire project area to address target metrics for timber, deer, salmon, medicine, recreation and other values. These technical plans, funded by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), include a prioritized list of projects and biotic monitoring plans that will be organized to dovetail with workforce development objectives at the local tribal government and to maximize efficiency through integrated implementation. Responsibilities: Over a 6-month time period, the Indigenous Fellow will participate in GIS career developmentexperiences supporting The Keex’ Kwaan Community Forest Partnership (KKCFP) and other on-going projects in Southeast Alaska. Project responsibilities include developing and maintaining GIS layers and data, creating and maintaining metadata, researching and examining availability and validity of existing data, and compiling geographic datasets and imagery. The Fellow will also create data visualizations, maps, reports, and presentations; make decisions on relevance and accuracy of data; document and record data; process and analyze data; and educate and communicate with end-users through oral and written presentations and reports. The Fellowwill be supported and mentored throughout the program by the Knowledge Systems ProgramDirectorand the Director of Indigenous Affairsin activities such as developinga work plan,technical assistance, project-related questions andapproaches, and theFellow’s professional development and careergoals. Compensation details: The the Fellowship is between $3,000 and $3,500 per month, dependent on experience, plus a $500 monthly housing stipend. Dates: October 15, 2019 - April 30, 2020 Hours: 15 hours/week Application Deadline: October 8, 2019 Cascadia Wild, a Portland-based 501c(3) nonprofit, seeks an intern to support the operations the Wolverine Tracking Project, a community science project that uses wildlife camera, snow tracking, and scat surveys to monitor rare carnivores in the Mt Hood National Forest. The intern will gain experience in all aspects of supporting a field-based community science research project, including equipment maintenance, data processing and analysis, and volunteer management. Work will be done at Cascadia Wild’s Northeast Portland office on a regular weekly schedule. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in additional fieldwork on weekends as availability allows. Duties include -Reviewing photos captured by motion-activated cameras to identify wildlife species -Gathering trip reports and photos and using them to write social media and blog posts -Entering data onto spreadsheets and maps -Checking and maintaining readiness of field equipment, including motion-activated cameras, scent bait, GPS units, etc. -Ensuring the proper storage of genetic samples -Assisting in planning and execution of the spring volunteer appreciation party Additional opportunities for motivated interns include participating in weekend field work on Mt.
