DUTIES Assist the GIS staff with: • Utilize ArcGIS software to produce maps and analytical products • Maintain the GIS map base layers • Print and distribute periodic updates of atlases • Perform other special assignments KNOWLEDGE DESIRED • Specific knowledge of ESRI software programs • Knowledge of ArcGIS Server, Flex/Flash programming and AutoCAD Map a plus (but not expected) COMPENSATION $13.00/hour – no benefits. …a brownbag sponsored by City of Portland Rivers Office Tuesday, September 20 Noon to 1 pm Portland Building Auditorium 1120 SW Fifth Beyond the Spill is a 30-minute film that takes a penetrating look at the 2010 Gulf oil spill. 22 Oregonians—including local journalists, artists, documentary filmmakers and activists—traveled to the Gulf to witness in person the resulting environmental and economic devastation. Presented by Mike Rosen, City of Portland, and Mike Houck, Urban Greenspaces Institute--both members of the PDX 2 Gulf Coast team, who will offer a Q&A after the film. Click here for more info. Because presentations at the symposium are short, the UERC offers its "First Friday" brown bag series to allow for more in-depth presentations and discussions around various topics that attendees want to know more about. "First Friday" brown bag presentations are held over the lunch hour at the Metro building in Portland. All are welcome to attend.

Under general supervision, a GIS Technician II performs specialized duties in the development, operation and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). These duties include: creating and maintaining both 2D and 3D GIS data and relational databases; performing complex vector and raster-based spatial analysis; developing analytical tools and models for performing spatial analysis; developing and maintaining web-based maps and tools; using cartographic and graphic design techniques to represent both 2D and 3D spatial data as maps, charts, and graphics; packaging, documenting, and distributing GIS data to other agencies and the public; and statistical analysis of GIS data. Although the current vacancy is in the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, other bureaus may use this list to fill future vacancies. Additional skills desired for this position are knowledge of and experience with the Python programming language and it's application to GIS; knowledge of and experience with the .NET programming framework and it's application to GIS; knowledge and experience with web development languages such as HTML and Javascript; and experience with 3D visualization software such as ArcGIS's ArcScene, Google Sketchup, and Google Earth.
