Hybrid/Telework schedules are available; there can be flexibility in start time, however because the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP) information technology solution, there are some technical limitations to performing assigned job duties virtually. As a result, DAHP requires at least one day in-office per week. The annual salary range of compensation for this position is dependent upon qualifications, although the expected hiring salary will typically be less than the top of the range, to allow for growth and development movement. What you will be doing: DAHP is the principal department charged with the recordation and protection of Washington’s cultural resources. Both state and federal law task DAHP with being the central repository for cultural resource data. You will support the geographic information system (GIS) program that enables the agency to meet its state and federal statutes. You will be responsible for digitizing locational information into ArcGIS SDE databases and capturing related data into Microsoft (MS) Access databases and WISAARD for traditional cultural properties, National Register of Historic Place data, cemetery sites, historic property linear features, archaeological sites, cultural resources reports and reviews Forest Practice Applications. You’ll work collaboratively with the GIS Program Manager to ensure that DAHP GIS initiatives conform to DAHP policies and are carried out efficiently and accurately. Duties Some of what you’ll be doing includes:
Qualifications REQUIRED: A two-year degree in cartography, geography, photogrammetry, geographic information systems, computer sciences, remote sensing, land survey, civil engineering, natural resources or closely related field that includes at least: one course in cartography and one course in computer sciences or geographic information systems OR Any combination of relevant undergraduate college education and full-time experience in technical cartographic or geographic information systems production that totals two years. AND
Knowledge of archaeology and historic preservation for the following laws as well as understanding of the regulatory consultation workflow: National Historic Preservation Act, Section 106, Section 304, Executive Order 11593 (Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural Environment), Executive Order 13006 (Locating federal Facilities in Historic Properties), Executive Order 21-02, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (WAC 25-12), Abandoned and Historic Cemeteries and Historic Graves (RCW 68.60), Washington State Historic Building Code (RCW 19.27.120), Heritage Barn Program (RCW 27.34.400), State Historical Societies - Historic Preservation (RCW 27.34), Archaeological Resource Protection Act of 1979, Archaeological and Historic Preservation Act of 1974, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Archaeological Sites and Resources (RCW 27.53), Archaeological Excavation and Removal Permit (WAC 25-48), Abandoned and Historic Cemeteries and Historic Graves (RCW 68.60), Registration of Historic Archaeological Resources on State-Owned Aquatic Lands (WAC 25-46), Aquatic Lands - In General (RCW 79.90.565), and Archaeological Site Public Disclosure Exemption (RCW 42.56.300).
