Job Summary City of Salem is looking for a GIS Intern who wants to gain valuable hands on experience in collecting, developing, and maintaining GIS data and performing GIS analysis to develop products and services. The hours will be flexible accommodating course schedules, 20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,200 hours a calendar year. What are the minimum qualifications? Current standing as a graduate or undergraduate student at a college or university with major course work in GIS, geography, computer technology or related field, and minimum 6 months of paid, unpaid, or volunteer experience, in the related area of project assignment. Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of products and the ArcGIS suite of software applications, Python scripting, and good communication skills are highly desired. Tasks may include field investigations, research regarding industrial users, administrative support including entering data into data bases, managing files, and researching plumbing and building records. Perform research and field work in support of Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, write reports and letters, and perform filing and general office duties. Provide general and administrative support to the Portland Brownfields Program through representation at neighborhood meetings and public events, amending program website, and conducting research. Wastewater Assist operations and maintenance staff with seasonal maintenance and a variety of special projects at the city's Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant. Department Overview: KP’s Utility for Care Data Analysis (UCDA) was created in 2005 to ensure that analysts and researchers throughout KP are able to fully realize the analytical potential of KP HealthConnect™ (KPHC) and other KP enterprise-level information systems to further KP’s mission - improving the health of our members and the communities we serve. The Oregon Health Authority’s Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) section is recruiting a GIS intern to assist with project development. This is currently an unpaid volunteer internship. The duration of the internship will be 200 hours. The program is open to all U.S. students and runs June 20-August 5, 2016. It is interdisciplinary in nature emphasizing community geography, community GIS, and citizen science through mixed methods, including sketch mapping, mobile mapping applications, focus groups, in-depth interviews, GIS, and spatial analysis.
Research opportunities: Students will work in one of two research directions with community partners and mentors from University of Central Florida, University of Belize, Georgia State University, and The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystems Program:

Summer 2016 - Swan Island
Work with the Environmental team and the Storm Water Manager to help field verify and map the storm drain infrastructure in Portland. Duties will include field verification of stormwater infrastructure, mapping collected data in GIS, and entering attribute data into GIS software.
