Under the direct supervision of the GIS supervisor, this position will perform complex technical duties to support geographic information systems (GIS) in the Public Works department. Work across all disciplines in Public Works to identify and document GIS business needs, then work with the appropriate GIS staff to develop workflows, tools, software solutions, and processes that meet those needs. Develop documentation and metadata for all processes, maps and data that Public Works GIS produces. Develop tools, databases, layers, publish map services, and automation processes to help improve efficiencies, data quality and workflows. Oversee the field data collection program for all disciplines within Public Works. Assist with the implementation of asset management and Public Works wide initiatives including improved capital planning, key performance metrics analysis, and meeting Council priorities. Act as a liaison/bridge between various divisions and departments such as engineering/design, IT (Information Technology), Utility Billing, Operations and Maintenance, Construction Services, Engineering, and Community Development, and Economic Prosperity and Housing.

Position Overview EWP is hiring a seasonal field representative to document existing Washington Park signage, using ArcGIS field maps, a smartphone or tablet, and a GPS receiver. For each sign the hardware and software will be used to document its location, enter descriptive information and take a photograph. The GIS Field Mapping Intern should be prepared to traverse Washington Park at distances sometimes upwards of 1 mile on trails, and be able to document signage both on trails and on or around roadways. They should be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate is someone who is enthusiastic and eager to gain more GIS field mapping experience. The position is open to current college students or recent graduates seeking work experience in the field of GIS. Candidates should be working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, geography, computer science, or related field. Duties & Responsibilities Applicant should be prepared to access signs in a variety of locations, including along roadways, in parking lots and along trails while carrying a smart phone or tablet and a GPS receiver. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated and adaptable to change. Additional tasks may include: editing the collected GIS data, documenting additional park assets, and assisting with trail counts. Should time allow, the GIS Field Mapping Representative may be called upon to clean and reformat data in the GIS database as well as perhaps to create maps and other analyzation tools with the data set, which may be utilized in compiling reports, or to assist in other data gathering aspect of the project (experience with Python a plus but not required). Portland Community College is looking for a qualified person to join our SEM Leadership Team to reduce energy use and increase our employee engagement activities. The associate will support the college’s Strategic Energy Management program and energy team by monitoring and tracking energy use, identifying energy efficiency opportunities and developing employee awareness and engagement strategies.
This person should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment and will finish the associate position having gained broad experience in various aspects of energy efficiency, project coordination and sustainability.
