This position will support two River and Environmental Team projects: Environmental Overlay Zone Map Correction Project (Ezone Project) and Floodplain Management Project. The Ezone Project has been underway for 2 ½ years. The project is correcting the location of the environmental overlay zone boundaries to align with existing natural resource features – streams, wetlands, steep slopes, forests and wildlife habitat. This work is needed to ensure that the resources are protected from additional development impacts and the functions of stormwater management, air quality/cooling and habitat are maintained. The project is currently before the Planning and Sustainability Commission. The Floodplain Management Project is a multi-bureau collaborative effort to meet anticipated Federal floodplain requirements, maintain compliance with the Endangered Species Act and participation in the National Flood Insurance Program, and further City policy objectives for human and environmental health and safety, development, and equity. The Floodplain Management Project is preparing for the release of its first public draft this summer. Stakeholder engagement will occur through the summer in preparation for consideration of the changes by the Planning and Sustainability Commission later this year.
