TriMet updated their job posting to remove the requirement for a recommendation letter and extended the application deadline to June 26th, 2017.
TriMet Mobile Surveyor Position Opening TriMet is recruiting Mobile Surveyors for an upcoming on-board survey project (Orange Line After Study). We will collect origin/destination, on/off stop, and demographic data from riders using tablets on-board TriMet buses and MAX Light Rail. The project will begin in mid to late September 2017 and continue until February 2018 or later. Benefits are a flexible work schedule, $14 per hour pay on as-needed basis, free monthly bus passes, and involvement in an important data collection project. The qualifications we are looking for are:
Surveyors will need to be able to get to and from any point in the TriMet transit network at the start time and end time of a route. Those bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian and ASL are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until June 26th, 2017. Interviews will be conducted at the end of June and training will take place in September at our offices in downtown or Southeast Portland. Please email a PDF copy of your cover letter and resume to [email protected], with subject line titled: “TriMet Mobile Surveyor”. Sensing the Environment: A series of collaborative projects between
Make+Think+Code@PNCA, Intel, and the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council to use art and technology to better understand our ecosystems, and the habitats and behaviours of birds and other life that shares our environment. We begin with a hackathon at Make+Think+Code@PNCA (July 14 - 16, followed by a week of prototyping and presentations on July 21) for naturalists and ecologists, artists, designers, and technologists. If you'd like to join us for any part of the project, please fill in the form linked here. The Goal(s): Design and build sensor kits to gather environmental data; use techniques of data science (deep learning) to analyse and interpret the data that we collect; and discover and tell the hidden stories about these species and spaces through virtual/augmented/mixed reality. The First Project: Acoustic monitoring Design and build a prototype for a kit to detect, track, and identify migrating birds and bats through sound. We currently have very little data for the region and while there are wonderful operational devices in existence, new technology and creative minds like you can create a mobile, (wireless), self-sustaining version we can use on rooftops, windows, all over Portland and the Pacific Northwest. Ideally, the new device would be battery-powered (with solar recharging, even better), and the system could record every sound onto a thumb drive or send it wirelessly to the cloud. Come play, experiment in collaborative teams, and create an amazing device that allows us to discover the birds and bats that inhabit and move through our region! The Second Project: Creating sensor kits for volunteer citizen scientists Design and build a mobile sensor kit that gathers environmental data (about air, water, soil, light, canopy, ...) and connects to a corresponding app on your phone. The goal is to find correlations between the various fauna and flora and their environment. We focus on the Sandy River and its delta to help determine which organisms are thriving or suffering in which environments so that they can direct volunteer efforts in planting trees and creating waterways that best support these organisms (plants, animals, reptiles, bugs, fish, etc.). JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – Aerial Mapping Company
POSITION: Aerial Sensor Operator & GIS/IT Technician TYPE: Full Time (F/T) with Benefits GeoTerra, Inc. is a full service aerial mapping company with offices in Portland, Eugene, and Boise with a hangar facility at Aurora State Airport, 20 minutes south of Portland. The company works for a wide variety of private and government entities across the United States with internal flight operations supporting the Pacific Northwest. GeoTerra operates three (3) aircraft with both imaging and Lidar type sensor systems. Each aircraft has a 2-person flight crew with a Pilot and Sensor Operator. Position: The Sensor Operator is responsible for the aerial photography and LiDAR sensor systems and assisting the pilot, as needed. As a member of the flight crew, the candidate must be comfortable in small aircraft and have a GIS and/or Information Technology (IT) background. A small to medium sized person is required since the aircraft has limited space and overall weight restrictions. GeoTerra utilizes a Cessna 310, a Cessna 210 Turbo, and a Cessna 180 type aircraft. No previous experience with aerial sensors is required but the person should be very comfortable with operating a computer system. Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) software is a plus. Normally aircraft fly 8 to 12 times per month when weather conditions are good for aerial collection of image and Lidar type data sets. Given our regional weather, more flying is done from March through October than during winter months. Secondary Duties: The Sensor Operator processes imagery and Lidar data after flights using specialized computer software. Data is reviewed for quality and completeness then forwarded on to mapping staff for production processes. Additional duties may include IT related duties, flight planning, GIS applications, and general support to office and hangar staff. Positives:
Negatives:
Additional Information: Our goal is to find a person who will thrive in this type of environment. Since the number of flight hours throughout the year are limited, we are searching for a candidate with GIS and/or Information Technology skills who will assist in other departments of the company. The work location flexes between our office in Portland (Sellwood neighborhood) and the hangar facility near Aurora. We will entertain the idea of this person working primarily at the Aurora hangar facility, as an option. Benefits:
