This Wednesday September 28th the Conservation GIS group been invited to a share some thoughts over a beer or two in a discussion ...
Invitation from Jen Newlin: GIS discussion idea: Using Earth observation for global challenges I'm a writer (who loves science) working at a creative firm and I'm trying to better understand how people use NASA data. My first thought was to ask the people who know and use it daily—the local GISers. I'm reaching out to you for my own education, to get smarter about examples of work that showcase Earth observation in new or exciting ways—especially as it relates to global challenges like freshwater availability, food security, natural disasters, etc. The storyteller in me is looking for great examples of existing stories/images/videos of this data in action—and intriguing ideas for what you think could happen. I'd welcome a chance for an informal chat to hear what you think. Please join me at Basecamp Brewing (930 SE Oak St, Portland) this Wednesday, 9/28, from ~5:30 – 7:30. I’ll be picking up the tab. Thanks! TriMet is recruiting Mobile Surveyors for an upcoming on-board survey project. We will collect origin/destination, on/off and demographic data from riders using tablets on board TriMet bus/MAX in October and November, possibly to early December. Benefits are a flexible work schedule, $14 per hour pay, free monthly bus passes, and involvement in an important data collection project.
Qualifications: • Tech savvy, esp. with Android mobile devices • Dependable • Trustworthy • Good work ethic • Friendly • Flexible • Good customer service skills • Familiarity with transit system and city • Can work at least 20 hours a week for six weeks from October to early December • Pay $14/hour on as-needed basis. Surveyors will need to be able to get to and from any point in the TriMet transit network at the start time and end time of a route. Those bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and ASL are encouraged to apply. We would very much appreciate your student recommendations. Please have them email a cover letter and resume to [email protected] with subject line titled: “TriMet Mobile Surveyor”. ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
