The projects include creating Pacific Lamprey occupancy and distribution GIS data, Pacific Lamprey data clearinghouse using the USGS ScienceBase portal, providing sampling design assistance to Federal, State, and Tribal partners conducting Pacific Lamprey surveys, providing stream flow and temperature data summary statistics for conducting a Pacific Lamprey climate change vulnerability assessment, implementing a data management framework at CRFPO to improve quality and access to data collected during CRFPO field projects, and creating MS access data entry forms for the Columbia River Information System (CRIS) hatchery database system. Primary responsibilities Assist CRFPO's GIS Analyst with aquatic ecology projects, especially those related to effects of climate change, endangered species recovery and conservation, and management actions on native aquatic resources important to the US Fish and Wildlife service and its partners. Major responsibilities include organizing spatial databases on species occupancy and distribution, generating publication-quality maps and graphics using ESRl's ArcGIS, inputting GIS and tabular information, developing spatial data layers to assess the effects of climate change and other factors on the habitat and distribution of aquatic species. This project would migrate water quality sampling sites from the LLID stream line work to the NHD stream network on a basis-by-basin approach. This work would occur in the Deschutes Basin. Water quality sampling sites in the basin will be migrated to the NHD high line work using established tools and a written procedure. Extensive and detailed QA/QC using documented procedures will be a major part of the project. Familiarity with ArcGIS is preferred; use of ArcGIS Model Builder is a plus. This project would give the intern an opportunity to learn about NHD and the use of GIS tools for foundational water quality management as well as the opportunity to interact with water quality professionals at DEQ.
