JOB DUTIES: This position will perform GIS technical analyses and data management for the Environmental Health Services Division. They will be a key player in transitioning the Division onto new software system and ensuring that data visualization through mapping is optimized. They will provide GIS subject matter expertise, and strategic thinking around mapping to assist in developing and preparing technical documentation to describe GIS programs, databases, and related software. As the GIS Specialist for Environmental Health will: . Lead the Division in creating a vision for utilizing GIS data to promote healthy communities in King County. . Answer internal and external data requests and handle the data transfer between agencies and jurisdictions. . Document standards for data management protocols to ensure consistency and quality. . Provide training and assistance to King County field and office staff on proper collection and data management practices using field GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and GPS (Global Positioning Systems) software and equipment (e.g., ArcGIS Mobile, ArcGIS/ESRI Collector, iOS/Windows/Android devices, GPS, etc.). . Provide general data connectivity analysis, corrections, and resubmitting areas of deficiency for field re-collection. . Sheer Ecology is seeking 1-2 technical assistants with skills in GIS, aquatic biology, or fisheries to work on spatial data projects related to watersheds, stream and landscape modeling, and field data integration. Timeframe is mid-April - August 1, though there is potential to extend through fall. It is part-time and by contract and does not include field work. Work can be done remotely (we are located in Spokane), though potential for a few in-person meetings is preferred. Internship Host Organization: Oregon Health Authority–Drinking Water Services (OHA–DWS) works to reduce the incidence and risk of waterborne disease and exposure of the public to hazardous substances potentially present in drinking water supplies. Position Description: The Wildfire and Water Quality Analyst will aid in OHA–DWS’s efforts to enhance understanding of wildfire impacts on drinking water systems, will analyze volatile organic compounds (VOC) analytical data and will improve emergency response by summarizing impacts from the September 2020 wildfires in Oregon. The Wildfire and Water Quality Analyst is responsible for supporting and advancing the OHA–DWS Wildfire VOC study and will work with members of the OHA–DWS team, Oregon State University (OSU) faculty and staff and operators of Oregon public water systems to analyze, synthesize and communicate meaningful study findings in both ESRI StoryMap and/or a technical report.
